New Jawbreaker, Slint?

Quick rundown of recent news:

  • New Hot Hot Heat song posted from their next record, Happiness, Ltd.
  • Aaron Sorkin (West Wing, Sports Night) to Write Flaming Lips Musical via Punknews.org
  • Slint are touring. But only in Europe. Please, someone send me to Europe. Maybe on or about May 29th.
  • Good Clean Fun to Make Feature Length Film via Punknews.org
  • Paint It Black will have a new record, and Dan makes it sound good. Also watch the video from The Fest.
  • Some damn fool Councilmember from DC wants to ban anyone under 21 from the city's clubs. The Black Cat and the 9:30 would be affected. The DC music scene would certainly be affected as well. Ian Mackaye has a response. Don't let DC go down.
  • Catlick Records released a benefit CD for Callum Robbins, son of AJ from Jawbox. It has 32 songs. One is by Jawbreaker. It is not an entirely new song, though. Just a demo recording. Still, it is a worthy cause and I love Jawbreaker.

I can't believe that under 21 bs, I still recall when I was under 21 and bands would hit St. Louis, often times they'd play a club downtown that didn't allow unders; which sucked on many occasions. Shortly after I turned that club had a under 21 section for most shows, so I think that's improved. I still love Fugazi, and love how they've always done tours their way; low ticket prices, no big advertising, no merchandise, all ages MUST be allowed.

I remember a few years ago they did a tour with Shellac opening...what a double bill that must have been.

It's important to keep some kind of scene for the young 'uns. They are the ones who will start the next bands. And then us old people will go watch them and drink beers.

DC's scene is different from anywhere else I have ever been. Very few people actually live in the city, and yet that's where a lot of the shows take place. If the kids don't have that, they will find something else. Probably something less productive.

More importantly, this is another example of politicians using one isolated event to legislate behavior for everyone else. If the next person to get shot at a club is over 21, then does that mean the law worked? Or is it just another tragic, unnecessary death?

And fak3r is right about Fugazi. They have the best attitude towards fans of any band: $5 shows, all ages, no moshing or other violence. I don't care if people mosh, myself, but it does keep some people away from shows.
